If you’ve been injured in an automobile accident, it’s important to act immediately in order to be fairly compensated from the insurance company, especially if you visit a neck pain specialist with an injury. Whether or not the accident was your fault, you may be entitled to compensation from either your insurance company or the other driver’s insurance company. To give yourself the best possible chances for a successful insurance injury claim, keep the following steps in mind.
1. Get a Police Report
It’s important to get an official police report of the accident incident. This will ensure that there is an objective, third party report that can be submitted to the insurance company for proof of claim. If the other driver asks not to involve the police, explain why it’s important to get the police report, for both your sakes.
2. Take Photographs
While you’re waiting for the police, take photographs of the accident and surrounding areas. This will help with your insurance claim as well as any other issues that may arise from the incident. In addition to several vehicle damage photos on both of the cars, be sure to include pictures of nearby road signage, any construction areas, traffic lights, road conditions and traffic situation. If you can take a short video of the traffic, that could be helpful as well.
3. Call Your Insurance Representative
Be sure to call your insurance representative as soon as possible to report the incident. They may wish to send someone out to your residence in person to examine your vehicle. Answer questions as clearly as you can and be sure to ask how long the claim process may take.
4. Visit a Doctor
Make an appointment to visit a doctor as soon as possible after the accident. If you explain to the receptionist that you’ve been in a vehicle accident, they will likely try to get you in immediately. Even if you have no pain right away, the adrenalin rush from the incident may be masking an injury. Neck injuries are particularly common after a vehicle accident, so it’s smart to visit a neck pain specialist. The specialist can examine you and make a diagnosis that you can also submit to your insurance company. If you ask, they may even be able to coordinate directly with the insurance company on your behalf.
It can be traumatic to be involved in an automobile accident. The things to keep in mind are to get a police report, take pictures, submit the claim as soon as possible and visit a doctor for a thorough exam for injuries. These things will help ensure your claim goes as smoothly as possible.
