What Is My Body Telling Me?

The body is a wondrous thing! It has ways of communicating with us and letting us know when things aren’t going so well. The problem is, most people don’t listen to their bodies and the signs it gives them. Sometimes, it takes something really terrible to happen before we listen close enough.

An example of not listening to your body is an instance like this. You constantly drink coffee, all day in fact, and every time you pour a cup, you add teaspoon after teaspoon of sugar to the coffee. All of the added sugar, over time, will catch up with you. It can cause physical symptoms alerting you there is something wrong. If you listen close enough, you’ll see how all of the extra sugar is making you feel tired and cranky. This is your body’s way of saying “Slow down! You are ingesting way too much sugar.”

It isn’t until something more serious happens, like developing diabetes, before some people will finally get the clue their body was trying to give them something. This is where knowing when and how to listen to what your body is trying to say will benefit you.

How many times have you felt the side effects of not getting an adequate amount of sleep? We have all had those days where we feel fuzzy, get a headache or just feel achy and sick. This is the body’s way of telling us we didn’t get enough sleep to regenerate. Just like a car would tell you if you didn’t put enough petrol in to run, the body will let you know as well.

Listening to the sometimes subtle (or not so subtle clues) can mean the difference between becoming really sick and being able to fix whatever is causing the problem. The body talks, really it does, we just have to listen to all of those aches and pains like they had actual voices. It is only then we can become better in tune with our bodies and live a healthier life.
