It is the primary sex hormone in men that play a vital role in developingthe male reproductive tissues like theprostate and testis. Apart from this, it also promotes the secondary sexual characteristics in men like increased bone and muscle mass, matured voice, body odor, body hair growth, body shape, strength and emotions.Testosterone is known to control the sex desire in both men and women and it also determines how long can you perform during an intercourse. This hormone decides the sex of a fetus before developing.
The production of testosterone
The testosterone production process is not at all simple. Here, the steps are briefly discussed for you to have a fair idea:
The process practically starts in the human brain which not only controls the amount but also the timing of production. It is the cerebral cortex of the brain that sends signal to the hypothalamus to produce testosterone whenever a man is excited.
Then, the hypothalamus triggers the pituitary gland for discharging the hormones namely Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Stimulating Follicle Hormone (FSH). The combination of these two hormones is gonadotropin.
The LHgets mixed with the blood and enters the testes where it triggers the cholesterol to produce testosterone. So, we can see that cholesterol isthe primary material that produces testosterone. The LH regulates the level of testosterone.
FSHactually controls the amount of sperm produced. When the testosterone level in the blood is sufficient, the hypothalamus intimates the pituitary gland to discontinue secreting the same. The process stops in the testicles too.
· Strengthensthe heart–Recent studies reveals, that men with low testosterone level are more prone to heart complications. So, in order to keep your heart healthy, you should maintain the normal testosterone level.
Reduces body fat–It is the T-level that controls the blood glucose, insulin and metabolism of fat. When the level of testosterone drops it reduces the body’s capacity to fight.
Makes the bones stronger –Bone-weakening disorder is not only seen in women but men as well. This is again caused by low T-level. For healthy bones the normal testosterone should be maintained.
Minimizes the chance of Alzheimer’s disease –Several studies including the one presented by the University of Hong Kongin 2010 reveals that low testosterone can lead to Alzheimer’s disease. If your T-level is normal, you are less prone to this disease.
Apart from the above roles, testosterone is known to influences men sexually, physically and also emotionally. It is also responsible for the overall growth and improvementof the mind. Testosterone influences the health in general. Normal T-level can help you manage your stress, handle acne, help you in the process of growth. Due to all these factors, it is regarded as a critical hormone in men.
