Think you know everything about fitness? Think again. You may have learned a lot about your health during your time in the gym, but the learning never stops; like recognizing what’s true in health and wellness and what’s a total myth.
Myth #1: Don’t workout on an empty stomach
Eating before you go to the gym will not affect the amount of fat you burn. You could actually burn more fat without eating before a workout. Although eating before a workout can affect your energy levels, it does not affect your fat burn.
Myth #2: Push through the pain
Some people think you should work through any minor pain or discomfort. There’s a difference between stretching yourself and doing damage. Make sure you know the type of pain you’re dealing with and the signal it’s trying to send. Small pains will not affect your workout in the long run. The sharp, consistent pain that continues after your workout is done (or reoccurring pain each time you workout) will.
Myth #3: Treadmills give the same effect as running outdoors
Using a treadmill can be a challenging way to workout, but it does not compare to a natural outside setting. Natural affects like wind, terrain and inclines cause more muscles to kick in and become active. Gyms in Portland will tell you, running or climbing outside uses more energy and body heat. Potentially, you could burn more calories that way.
Myth #4: Don’t workout everyday
Working out every day will not affect your production. Rest and recovery should be a part of your workout cycle to strengthen and rebuild. However, working out each day will not hurt you in the future. Listen to your body and do not overextend yourself. Your body will let you know when it is time to take a break or when to get back on the grind.
Myth #5: The more you sweat, the less in shape you are
For a long time, people have assumed a heavy sweater is not in good shape, but it is quite the opposite. The more your workout and the better shape you are in, you tend to sweat more. The sweat glands recognize the increase in activity and produce more body heat.
