Identifying the Worst of the Worst
You have to identify the worst of the worst habit in your system that might interfere with your recovery. Sometimes these kinds of habits may be interrelated with your addiction. So, you should identify and list the habits that will put you in danger in your recovery.
Drinking habit, bad sleeping habit, or any habit that will put you at risk is included in the risk. Be honest with yourself as this will only benefit you and not the people around you.
Take it One Step at a Time
You don’t address all the bad habits at the same time. It’s just too difficult to do. What you want to do is to address them one step at a time. Focus first on one habit and how you will be able to break that.
A lot of information in the mind is a bit too difficult to register. If you got the first one under control, then you can immediately proceed to the next one in the list.
Design a Replacement Activity
One of the best things that you can do to counter your bad habit is by replacing it with a good one that is beneficial to you and to your recovery. This is something that you will do when you are stressed. Instead of smoking a cigarette, or even worse use drugs again, maybe you can think of something that can’t harm you such as chewing gum.
The aim is to design our very own habit that is healthier and more beneficial to you — thus forgetting your bad habit in the process.
Monitor your Progress
You should be able to monitor your progress. Mark your successes every time a day goes by that you are not making your habit. If you see some of your successes manifesting, then you will be internally motivated to keep on doing it until you break it – check out the health and wellbeing blog for more tips.
You can also analyze the things that need amendments in your action. If you think that you are lapsing, then address it immediately.
